About Me

My name is Mathias Ricken, and I am Assistant Project Manager and Programmer at Chaotic Arts. With the experience that I earned in this team over the years, I assist Tobias, our Project Manager, in his everyday tasks and at the same time do part of the development tasks, mainly network and AI programming as well as scripting. One of my continuing projects is ChaoScript, our scripting language that I continue to extend and optimize.

The Past

I have been a member of Chaotic Arts since 1994 and am the only founder that still has a passion to create computer games. Most of the time I was Project Manager and Programmer and was, among other things, in charge of the development of our real-time strategy game Incident, did a large portion of the design and conceptual work, and worked on parts of the programming.

After graduating from the Gymnasium an der Hermann-Böse-Straße in Bremen I decided to study in the United States, and in December 1999, while doing civil service, I was admitted into Rice University, one of the best universities in America. I could not ignore that chance and accepted the offer; unfortunately, we had to discontinue work on Incident because of this.

The Present

I am currently in the fourth semester of my studies of Computer Science in Houston. Since I believe that the Project Manager ought to be the heart and soul of a team and always be present, I reluctantly passed the job as Project Manager on to Tobias and now only function as his deputy. In addition to that I continue to work on several programming projects, like ChaoScript and parts of Narrow Gauge, our most recent game.

The Future

Even though we all are really busy right now I can see us making steady progress. This perseverance, combined with our love for what we do, lets me believe that Chaotic Arts still has a splendid future ahead of it. After all, we do have what it takes, I know that for sure.
